Navy gives OK to women submariners

The Navy and the Department of Defense are moving ahead with plans to drop the ban on women aboard submarines, and have notified Congress, which has 30 working days to object.

Approval from the military side goes all the way to the top from Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead to Navy Secretary Ray Mabus. Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates notified Congress last week of his intention to repeal the ban.
