Gun Owners of America: No on anti-Gun Supreme Court Nomination

They call Supreme Court nominee: An anti-gun ObamaPET!

The next justice of the Supreme Court could well cast the deciding vote on the constitutionality of ObamaCare. And that justice will almost certainly preside, during the next thirty years, over dozens of cases which could very well chip away at the DC v. Heller decision, telling us which gun laws the court views as "constitutional" and which "unconstitutional."

So it is more than a little interesting that Barack Qbama has reached into his closet of political leftists to bring out Elena Kagan -- a woman whose legal views have been shaped by the most extreme socialist voices in Washington.

Kagan doesn't have a record of judicial opinions. She hasn't been a judge. So the crafty Obama figures that, without a paper trail, we won't know of the ways she is moving American jurisprudence to the left until it's too late.

But Kagan's views on the Second Amendment are no mystery. According to columnist James Oliphant, Kagan was part of "a small group of staffers work[ing] behind the scenes to pursue an aggressive policy agenda" during President Bill Clinton's second term.

Oliphant writes: "According to records at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Ark., [Kagan] drafted an executive order restricting the importation of certain semiautomatic assault rifles. She also helped prepare a question-and-answer document advocating the campaign-reform legislation then proposed by Sens. Russ Feingold and John McCain."

Kagan was also part of the Clinton team that pushed the firearms industry to include gun locks with all gun purchases and was in the Clinton administration when the president pushed legislation that would close down gun shows.

President Obama has made it very clear that he expects Kagan's "powers of persuasion" to make her and Justice Anthony Kennedy the swing votes to uphold his anti-gun ObamaCare legislation.

Kagan's opinion of the "greatest lawyer" of her lifetime was her former boss -- the consistently left-wing Justice Thurgood Marshall.

Bloomberg News reported on May 13 that while working for Justice Marshall, Kagan urged him to vote against hearing a gun owner's claim that his constitutional rights were violated.

Kagan wrote that she was "not sympathetic" toward the gun rights claim that was made in Sandidge v. United States -- an amazing statement for a woman who is being heralded for supposedly showing a "special solicitude" for the interests of certain groups.

Alas, it seems that gun owners are not a part of those groups for whom she would like to show special concern.

After the Heller case was handed down, Kagan did concede that the Second Amendment was an "individual right." But that makes her no different than the talking heads at the Brady Campaign.

Kagan, like the President who nominated her, is an extreme leftist. According to WeeklyStandard.com (May 6, 2009), she is so far to the left she has lamented that socialism has "never attained the status of a major political force" in our country.

And according to Politico.com (March 20, 2009), she says that foreign law can be used to interpret the U.S. Constitution in "some circumstances." Considering that most of the world does not respect the freedoms that are protected in our Second Amendment, this is a bad sign.

While every Senator needs to hear from us, there are seven Republican Senators in particular who need to hear from their constituents. These seven Republicans voted for Elena Kagan last year when she was confirmed as Obama's Solicitor General:

* Coburn (R-OK)
* Collins (R-ME)
* Gregg (R-NH)
* Hatch (R-UT)
* Kyl (R-AZ)
* Lugar (R-IN)
* Snowe (R-ME)

Well this group isn't going to welcoe Miss. Kagan with open arms.

Gun Owners Of America seems to be ready for a Supreme Fight

I get email alerts from the Gun rights group & here's what they had to say about the impending Supreme Court battle:

With the retirement of the liberal justice John Paul Stevens from the U.S. Supreme Court, there has been fervent speculation over the weekend as to which anti-gun crazy will be nominated by Barack Obama to succeed him.

The successor could cast the deciding vote on the constitutionality of ObamaCare. And there has also been speculation whether Senate Republicans -- fresh from their bumbling, feckless ObamaCare strategy -- will pull their punches on a Supreme Court nominee in order not to appear "obstructionist."

Senate Campaign Committee Chairman and Texas Senator John Cornyn said Republicans would "bend over backwards both in appearance and in reality to give the nominee a fair process."

You may remember this was the same Senate leadership team that "bent over backwards" on ObamaCare. And Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi took advantage of their "bent-over-backwards" position to kick them in the rear.

How serious a problem will the potential nominee be?

Let's look at the liberal media's "Obama Short List" of names which have been actually floated to replace Stevens:

* Could it be White House advisor Cass Sunstein, who hates hunting and believes animals should have lawyers to sue you?

* Or maybe Attorney General Eric Holder, who believes guns should be licensed, reloading should be outlawed, and semi-autos should be banned -- and has done everything he can to destroy the Second Amendment by regulatory fiat?

* Or perhaps State Department advisor Harold Koh, who has gone out of his way to blast the Second Amendment in his writings?

* Or a crazy anti-gun governor, like Massachusetts' Deval Patrick or Michigan's Jennifer Granholm?

* Or possibly just a garden-variety liar like D.C. Circuit Court Judge Merrick Garland, who will perjure himself before Congress -- showing his anti-gun animus only after he's procured his lifetime seat?

Whichever one of these radicals Obama selects, the fact is we really don't need another ObamaPet on the U.S. Supreme Court -- with the possibility that he or she will cast the deciding vote in favor of every socialist "change" that this administration can ram down our throats. We have enough ObamaPets in Congress already.

Here's a Pre-written letter to Republican Senators from Gun Owners of America:

Dear Senator:

With the retirement of the liberal justice John Paul Stevens from the U.S. Supreme Court, there has been fervent speculation over the weekend as to which anti-gun crazy will be nominated by Barack Obama to succeed him.

So it is particularly disconcerting to hear press reports that Senate Republicans will pull their punches on a Supreme Court nominee in order not to appear "obstructionist."

Senate Campaign Committee Chairman and Texas Senator John Cornyn said Republicans would "bend over backwards both in appearance and in reality to give the nominee a fair process."

I would remind you that the same Senate Republican leadership team "bent over backwards" on ObamaCare. And Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi took advantage of that "bent-over-backwards" position.

The bottom line is this: Barack Obama has crammed socialized medicine down the throats of the American people -- and has set up an historic referendum on his anti-gun stewardship. But, until November, we need you to put further Obama Supreme Court-packing put on hold until the American people have had their say.

Sincerely,

Wanna Know What Gun Owners of America Think About the Healthcare Bill that Making Its Way Thru Congress

I'm on their email list & here's what have sent to all of their members:

Remember the Senate's anti-gun ObamaCare bill that was crammed full of billions of dollar of bribes:

* The Cornhusker Kickback?

* $300,000,000 of bribes to Louisiana's Senator Mary Landrieu?

* A new hospital in Connecticut for morally challenged Senator Chris Dodd?

* Roughly ten billion in community health centers to buy off Vermont's Bernie Sanders?

* An exemption of Bill Nelson's Florida constituents from the Medicare Advantage cuts applicable to everyone else?

* A threat to take away Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman's committee chairmanship unless he falls into line?

And, lest we forget, remember the Senate ObamaCare bill which still allows the ATF to troll a health/gun database in order to take away firearms from tens of millions of Americans?

Well, that's the bill that Speaker Nancy Pelosi is now trying to cram down the throats of conservative House Democrats, who are being told they have to pass this bill that is filled with bribes and corruption --- WITHOUT A SINGLE CHANGE.

Not a single bribe will come out of the bill which Pelosi and Obama are now DEMANDING that the House pass by March 18.

Sure, there will be a companion package --- dubbed "ObamaCare Helper" --- which will be "passed" by the House at the same time.

But once ObamaCare is passed, what motivation do either Obama or Senate Democrats have to pass a clean-up bill for House Democratic suckers once they've gotten the trillion dollar Senate bill they want?

So -- how does Pelosi get the votes for ObamaCare Helper? Answer: More bribes, threats and corruption.

They say House Democrats are being Bribed & Coerced to Vote for the Senate's Corrupt ObamaCare Bill... Verbatim!

Here's a pre-written letter that they wrote & want their supporters to send to their representatives:

-----Pre-written letter -----

Dear Representative:

The Senate's anti-gun ObamaCare bill is crammed full of billions of dollar of bribes:

* The Cornhusker Kickback.

* $300,000,000 of bribes to Louisiana's Senator Mary Landrieu.

* A new hospital in Connecticut for morally challenged Senator Chris Dodd.

* Roughly ten billion in community health centers to buy off Vermont's Bernie Sanders.

* An exemption of Bill Nelson's Florida constituents from the Medicare Advantage cuts applicable to everyone else.

* A threat to take away Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman's committee chairmanship unless he falls into line.

And, of course, the Senate ObamaCare bill still allows the ATF to troll a health/gun database in order to take away firearms from tens of millions of Americans.

Well, now, you are being told you have to pass this bill that is filled with bribes and corruption --- and to pass it WITHOUT A SINGLE CHANGE.

We understand that Pelosi will now attempt to shower you with bribes and threats. But believe me, your political career is more important than any bribe Pelosi can offer you.

Please, resist the bribes and extortion from Pelosi. Vote against the bribe-filled Senate bill and against the bribe-filled ObamaCare Helper bill.

Sincerely,

Now I'm trying to figure out how is Healthcare Reform will affect Gun Rights?
