In a press conference today Ken Hodges has gotten the endorsement of Howard "Bo' Callaway in his bid to become Georgia's next Attorney General.
Callaway was the first republican elected to congress (3rd District) back in 1964 as a Goldwater Republican, the first to do so since reconstruction.
Callaway served as Secretary of the Army under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford and headed Ford’s 1976 campaign committee.
Says Callaway: I know Ken Hodges, I watched his career as district attorney in southwest Georgia, and I know he has the integrity, character and experience necessary to serve in that critical office,” Callaway said in a statement.
Callaway's son Edward Callaway is Hodges Campaign Tresurer.
I thought is was going to be Saxby Chambliss. I didn't see this one coming. This endorsement will have some sway among voters or (Conservative Democrats, Dixiecrats) who left the democratic party in 1964 for the GOP still remember Callaway from the 1964 Campaign. I know it will help Hodges over in West Georgia: Troup, Meriwether, Heard Counties for example. He was the chairman of GOPAC from 1987-1993.
