Jones County News: Gray’s incumbent mayor pro tem, Loretta Lipsey, is joined in the upcoming city election by two candidates who would like her job.
Lipsey was elected to the position of mayor pro tem in 2005, and she is opposed in the coming election by political newcomers Rick Tipton and Rooster Cogburn in the race for the city’s second highest office.
The main job of the mayor pro tem is to stand in for the mayor if he or she is not available, but unlike the mayor, the mayor pro tem has a vote. Gray’s mayor may only vote in the case of a tie.
The date of the city election is Nov. 3, and early voting begins Oct. 13 at City Hall.
