Endorsement for PSC Commissioner District 2 in the GOP Primary: Jeff May (R-Monroe)

In the GOP Primary race for Public Service Commission District 2 seat Peanut Politics endorse Jeff May (R-Monroe) to take on Democrat Keith Moffett (D-Macon) to succeed Bobby Baker, who is not seeking re-election to the Board.







May is by far the most qualified out of all of the GOP candidates for PSC Commission.

May served as chairman of the Energy Subcommittee of Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications Committee in the House of Representatives.

His experience as chairman of the Energy Subcommittee puts him head over heels over Tim Echols, John Douglas & Joseph Brush & his plan to Create jobs for Georgians,
Provide reliable service while protecting businesses and consumers & Promote alternative energy sources makes him the most qualified & the most "ELECTABLE"
candidate to go on to the General Election to face Moffett in November. Neither John Douglas, Tim Echols & Joey Brush have the experience nor expertise like May does (Repeat May Chairs the Energy Subcommittee) to sit on the PSC Board.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff at the SWGAPolitics candidate forum & I came away very, very impressed by this man & his candidacy & he is one of the few republicans I would vote for.

His down to earth demeanor & likable manner is a plus when courting voters. With the PSC Race so wide open, he'll most probably end up a runoff, but he's better qualified that his other GOP counterparts to go on to the General Election.

Joe Sports was associate editor of The Douglas Enterprise and news/promotion director of WALB-TV, Albany, Georgia in addition was executive director of the Democratic Party of Georgia during the administrations of two governors, and three state chairmen -- and was succeeded in this position by Zell Miller, former Governor of Georgia and U.S. Senator. Lake Oconee GOP Convention Last Saturday

Movie-goers, however, might have been surprised to see Republican candidates taking their hot races to the Spotlight Theatre in Greensboro in a GOP primary convention unprecedented in the Lake Country.


With more than an estimated 10,000 Republican voters in Putnam and Greene counties and 37 GOP candidates running in Georgia’s July 20 primary election, Lake Country’s GOP party leaders decided to use the theater as a venue for candidates to showcase what they have to offer area voters. The event was organized by brian Burdette, GOP Chairman of Greene County.

Nobody was keeping an official count of the convention turnout, but estimates range from a conservative 500-600 people to nearly 1,000 during the five-hour convention. Voters heard from each candidate seeking the GOP nomination in statewide races for such seats as governor, senator, state row offices and commissioners of state departments.



Burdette said area GOP committee leaders had never tried to hold a statewide convention of sorts on a county level. “But,” he wrote in a follow-up report to committee people, “because of the support and enthusiasm of conservatives throughout the tri-county area and the 10th (Congressional) District, we were able to gather 92 percent (34 of 37) of all GOP candidates running.

Greene County GOP recruited area businesses to make use of the captured audience and exhibit information about their enterprises. By selling exhibit space and other promotional perks to 25 businesses, the Greene County party was able to pay for the convention, said Burdette. The GOP Committee offered a price range of promotional packages to businesses, starting at $350 for one week of commercials on Plantation Cable TV, 10 radio spots on Dock 103, a booth at the convention and a mention in the event’s program. Burdette said feedback from the businesses about their return-on-investment was positive.

Tippett named as one of the top 50 Republicans in Georgia

Appling County political activist Pat Tippett was recently recognized as one of the state’s top 50 Republican influences according to Campaigns and Elections’ Politics Magazine.

The article lists the top 10 for both Democrats and the GOP. Tippett is included in the “next 40” section for each party.

The listing referred to Tippett as “a leading figure in the state’s evangelical wing.”

Tippett has been active in the Republican Party since 1993 and has held numerous titles. She is Co-Founder of Georgia Conservatives in Action. At the present Tippett serves as the First Congressional District Chair of the Party.

Endorsement for State School Superintendent: Brian Westlake (D-Decatur)

Education is at a critical point in Georgia now. The only state that's furloughing Teachers, schools having to cut programs just to meet their budgets, funding for education (QBE) continues to get slashed by the republican-controlled legislature & governor Sonny Perdue.

The livelihood of our public schools are at stake & its time Georgia send someone to the office of State School Superintendent to fix our ailing school systems & help our teachers succeed as much as possible.

Kathy Cox (R) the incumbent time as State School Superintendent has not been a good one, with Ga's Test Scores ranking in the bottom five, one time at 49th ahead of only South Carolina. I'm not going to waste time going on & on with the leadership of Kathy Cox at School Superintendent.

That's why Peanut Politics is proudly endorsing Brian Westlake (D) for State School Superintendent.





Brian has been an active member of the Georgia Association of Educators, serving in elected positions at various levels—including representing the organization nationally. He is a award winning high school social studies teacher with over a decade of experience in Georgia public schools & is a product of Georgia's Public School System Himself.

Westlake served in the U.S Marine Corps, where he worked in military intelligence.

Westlake was one of four children that was raised by a single mother after the illness of his father. Westlake wants to invest in early childhood education, expand technical & vocational options & as a current school teacher himself, he feels eachers must be treated like professionals in which he says those who are in the classroom everyday working with our children must have a voice in the development of the policies that affect their profession.

This was not a easy decision, with Beth Farokhi also in the race with her wealth or experience, but Ga Schools would be served best if we had a current Teacher at the Helm of reforming our schools. Westlake's youth, vision & and experiences as a public school teacher is what Georgia needs at the moment as schools across the state face uncertain future & Rural Schools will benefit from having Westlake as its next State School Superintendent
