State Senator Eric Johnson (R-Savannah) resigned from the State Senate to focus on the 2010 governor's race. Johnson served in the senate for 17 years. By resigning, Johnson can now focus on fundraising in his bid to win the republican nomination. Had he stayed in the senate, he would not have been able to raise money for the 2010 governor's race. Johnson raised $962,000 with $913,000 on hand at last reported so he is very well funded for the republican primary. With his departure from the State Senate, will democrats put someone up for that seat? Well I have somepne in mind who would be perfect for that senate seat. His name is Bill Gillespie. The district includes Chatham, Bryan, & Liberty Counties, which includes Ft. Stewart.
